Easy-to-Run Summer Programs

Help Kids & Earn Extra Income!

If you’d like your team members to continue to play competitive tennis this summer, or if you’d like to try your hand at running a youth tennis program, you don’t have to be a teaching pro or tournament director to run great camps, clinics, lessons or competitions.

The USHSTA’s Career Center has information on a variety of entry-level to intermediate tennis programs which are pre-packaged and have all the information and items you need to run a program that will suit your experience and time frame.

In addition to helping to improve your team for next year, growing tennis in your community and keeping your coaching skills sharp, summer youth programs offer a great way to earn extra income!

Competitions
For players who already know how to serve, rally and keep score, there are a number of programs (in addition to tournaments and challenge ladders) you can organize, such as TeamTennis leagues (which can also be run as one-time weekly or monthly mixers) and USTA programs.

Lessons
From tots to teens, there are programs for every skill level of player and coach. Even if you’re not a certified tennis coach, you can teach beginners and intermediates using programs like the USTA’s 10 & Under Tennis. Many youth tennis programs come with a curriculum, marketing materials, score cards, t-shirts and other accessories to help you get started.

Consider running a youth tennis program this summer for any age to supplement your income, increase tennis play in your community and to improve your high school teams by providing continuing lessons, practices and competition for youths (from tots to teens) in your area.

Camps
If you don’t want to teach or coach all summer, consider a week-long camp. Our articles Summer Camps That Make Sense, Developing a Summer Camp and Promoting your Programs will help you succeed.

Tennis Fitness
Cardio Tennis is a tennis workout featuring music and fast-paced drills complete with a curriculum that includes a warmup, stretching and cooldown. You’ll need to get certified, but you’ll attract adults and teens who are looking for an alternative to a gym or fitness center one or more nights per week.
